Last Aid Course Information

Last Aid is for everyone who wants to learn more about what they can do to care for those close to them during dying, death, grief and bereavement.

Course Construction

Each course is delivered by 2 trained instructors who offer a combination of clinical and lived experience. Courses are capped at 20 participants.

Cost: $30.00 per participant per course.

What does the course cover?

Death as a normal part of life 

Includes a description of the usually peaceful and pain-free dying process. 

Clarifies aims and goals of palliative care.  

Planning ahead 

Learn how palliative care and hospice care are provided.  

Guidelines to help navigate the healthcare system. 

The basics of Advance Care Planning.  

Relieving suffering 

Practical ways to provide care at the end of life. 

Explanations of common signs and symptoms. 

Explanations of often used medical terms and procedures. 

Final goodbyes 

Explore some of the rituals and practices used by various cultures when death occurs. 

Learn how to normalize grief and how to talk about it with others, especially children.

Last Aid is for anyone who wants to feel more comfortable and confident in talking about grieving, dying, and death.

More courses will soon be available online and in person in Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island and Saskatchewan.  The cost per course is $30.00. 

Please note, courses will be capped at 20 participants, but will include a 5 person waiting list.

Do I have to live in the province or territory where the course is being offered?

You do not have to live in the province or territory where the course is being offered. However, some of the information in the Last Aid course is specific to the province or territory where the course is being held.

Is there a waiting list?

Yes. If the course is full you will be given the option to sign up for the waiting list. If a seat opens you will be notified.

What do I do if I registered for a course but I can no longer go?

If you registered for a course and can no longer attend, please contact [email protected] as soon as possible.

When will courses be offered in other parts of Canada?

We are working to have courses available in every province and territory across Canada. More provinces and territories will be added as we train new course facilitators.

Why are some courses offered online and others in person?

Whether a course is online or in-person is dependent on the preference of the facilitators leading each course.
